Idle Problems !!!! help please

ooook so im in a bit of a problem right now ....i have a 89 240 coupe that has a BRAND NEW ka24e , it has only like a few thousand miles on it ....trannys brand new , everything , this is pretty much a new car . now , i dont know alot about cars and especially nissans so i dont know what happend to me car , but heres what happend and maby one of you could help me out with this .

i live with a guy who owns a civic .....my friend went to colorado to visit family so im watching his car ......not 3 days after christmas his car got stolen at 3 in the morning , so im searching ALL OVER all day and nothing comes up ... so i just figure ok this cars gone .......around 4pm i find the car ! with sumone driving it ,.. sooo i ended up in a car chase doind around 80 on main streets (it was not hard at all to keep up with this lil civic) but we came to a dip .....and he dident brake and i dont know what i was thinking .....but i dident brake ENOUGH and i bottomed out and herd horrible noises and ever since then my car does not idle right ..... i have to turn on my defroster to get my idle to stay at 900 rpm's ....without defroster on .... it dies ...so i was wondering if eneyone has a guess on whats wrong with my car ?

Need more info to try to help you. And my 240 idles around 700, is the problem that its idling high or low. And did you get the car back?

By "defroster" you don't mean the rear window defroster, right, but the A/C? When you turn on the compressor RPM should jump to 1000-ish. It sounds like maybe you knocked something loose in the bay that wasn't connected well when the swap was done. Check vacuum lines, electrical connections, etc. (although a lot of the vacuum lines are crammed behind the engine. You may not get to them with the head and intake mani on.)

to answer ur questions ....yes we got our friends civic back and as of my idle ...its running way to low ....befor it was around 750 sumtimes 800 ...bot it goes to about 400 or below depending on tempature ....so i keep the a/c defroster to keep it up .....

I have a 91 Nissan 240SX and am having basically the same problem. Did you find out what the problem with your idle is? Let me know please.

dont know if this will help out or not. the other day i was driving down the road with a fine idle then i had no choice but to run over a fairly large chunk of ice. Well right after i did that i noticed my car would drop all the RPM's out of it at idle but didn't die(very low like around 300 revs). so i went home and listened to it for a bit to see if i could figure out if i had knocked something loose. Turns out i had but it was very hard to figure out. Try advancing or retarding your timing not much but just a hair and see if that does the trick to fixing the problems it did for me so it may be worth a try

I've been having a similar problem with my 240sxafter my car warms up when i go to stop, sometimes as soon as i let go of the gas the idle drops rapidly and either the car shuts off or it catches and bounces back up. When sitting at lights it sometimes idles at like 300-400 rpms, and lately my lights dim out and radio shuts off. i plugged a multimeter into my cigarette lighter and when it does this, the voltage reads between 9 and 11 volts, but when i'm driving it's at 13.

I have the same exact problem. I have not been able to figure this out. I went to 3 different mechanics, they all said IACV, whcih was replaced by the 2nd mechanic. I still have this problem and its really pissing me off. I am about to sell the car to this ricer kid down the street.

Has anyone solved this problem yet.

besides the iac did you check the tps adjustments?

also is it idling rough? if it is check egr (pintle water test for leakage)-*vacuum leaks? also check the intake snorkel.-low fuel pressure?-weak spark? battery ?-did you get any check engine light?

I just recently started having this problem last night fellas! I did search so I wouldnt post another thread about it. So im gonna start by looking for vacum leaks, and check the iavc
