yeah mine does that too... it's kind of annoying..It hasn't done it lately. It's like it takes forever for it to go back to normal idle. I'd like to know what the problem is too.

mine stopped doing that after i plugged the iacv inlet tube with a spark plug, obviously a temporary fix, but it worked.Granted, with this, whenever you fire up the engine cold it will start and then want to die, but after you blip the throttle three times its idle is rock solid. Also, doing this only emphasizes the KAs hot start problem, its almost impossible to start without the throttle wideopen when the engine is hot.

This is just my experience, i guess you could try just cleaning the iacv valve, but plugging it and driveing it around is a good way to see if thats your problem, just remember how i said to cold start it.

While the engine is on, try wiggling some of the wires in the engine bay and see if it affects the idle rpm.

search on the forum for idle issues and you will come up with many results and one of them might help you out.

-- pt.1, adjust idle screw-- pt.2, if no change replace IAC device underneath the intake runners

- check/replace IACV underneath intake runners (pain in the as$)

- clean throttle body

- plug AIV valve (S13 only)

-- pt. 1, check wiring/replace TPS-- pt. 2, replace oxygen sensor if problem with TPS (preventative follow-up)

- Check Fuel pressure & regulator operation

- Inspect injector O-rings for damage (pain in the as$)

blah blah blah there are tons of possible problems.

I fudged that by accident, sorry! The IAC is a slave of the idle screw, its located underneath the intake runners. Its the one that the about 1" hose goes into the tube to the bottom right of the throttle body. You cant really see it too well without a flashlight...

Actually, the TPS is also a slave of that computer programming... I would check it as well...

What's so bad about it idleing at 800-1100 if it's super smooth? I got this car new in 89 (well my dad did) and from what I remember it has always been in the 800-1100 range

The reason I posted the prior post was becuase ALL the KA idle issues have roughly the same causes. If you simply follow the proper procedures you will eventually find the issue.

What should the KA24DE idle at? I bought my car a few months ago and it idles between 1k and 1.1k. SOMTIMES 900, but usually 1k-1.1k (no AC). Is this bad and should I correct it, or is it okay to leave as is?

How would I go about changing the idle from 1k-1.1k back to 700 or 800? Or, what could be causing this higher idle?

FSM lables the Idle to between 550-800 rpm for manual transmission, as I am betting most of you are.
