I just bought a 1993 240sx SE Fastback. The car runs nice except for idle. It takes a second to start at times and the whole car rocks at 1000 rpms. As soon as you give it gas, it smooths out completely and sounds nice. I am in process of replacing the oil pan gasket, front seal, water pump, and fuel filter. I have already replaced the plugs, wires, dist., and rotor. The car ran a little better at idle after all that, but is still very rough. I think it could either be the trottle position sensor or the idle control valve. Any suggestions??

I also have a similar problem. I don't mean to thread jack but I don't want to see two similar threads up at the same time right next to each other.

My idle problem is that when I'm sitting at a red light or something not touching the gas, clutch, shifter, or brake, the RPM's drop down to about 550-600. My usual idle RPM is at 800. My question for you guys: is this normal ? To me it sounds bad because the car shakes alot and I can hear the exhaust vibrating somewhere behind the rear axle. A bad vibrating sound, though, like metal on metal shaking. Think marble in muffler but coming from the piping. Would it help you guys in any way if my ECU is reflashed and my timing is slightly advanced in my single cam ?

It idles low or engine dies when you are stop signs and stop lights?

I had similar problem. I did, I double check all my relays then ended up having a bad ECU relay. This relay got wet and ended up acid corossion all over the plug. So now drives fine....
