idle problem... help please

hey guys i have yet another problem with my 90hb. Cars run fine but when Im at a stop and press on the accelerator the rpm drops to 500, seems like the car hesitates then speeds up to normal. I had a broken airbox so i put one of the cheap autozone cone filters, with no aftermarket adapter, i just cut metal piece off of the airbox that holds the square filter and the sensor is just dangling... could this be the problem possibly? like the computer is recognizing how much air is going in. any feedback would help out thanks.

Common problem is egr port gallery is plugged w/ carbon deposits, could be tps , any codes?
