Do most m56 owners on cold starts warm up the engine? I noticed that after waiting about 5 minutes or so my idle only drops to 1000rpms on a cold start. Is that normal? After a short drive my idle hovers around 600 to 700 rpms. But it never gets that low when I start it in the morning and wait for it to warm up in park. Just want to make sure that sounds about right.

On cold starts the ECU controls the idle based on engine temperature. It is working as it should.

Mine dips to 800-900 rpm's if i let it idle for about 6 minutes. I normally let it idle before I put the car into gear. I'm sure its all in my head but I swear the car runs alot smoother and shifts without jerking around especially when shifting out of Park and into Reverse or Drive.

It just recommends a 30 second warm up in the manual.
