A couple months ago. I drove my 01' QX4 to Clinicals, everything was fine. When I left at 2:00 when I came to a red light, or stop, it would die. I just shifted to Neutral and revved the engine to keep it running. On my way home I called my Dad to ask what it could be, he just recommended who to take it to. I arrive at the shop an the mechanic came out and looked under the hood. He unplugged the sensor on the filter box intake, while it was running and keeping it running manually; since it continued to run, he ruled it not to be a faulty sensor.
Then he checked the vacuum lines, ruling things out as he went.
Turns out, when u press the gas pedal, there is a cable that pulls and opens he throttle body. There is a set screw that is held tight by a nut that I believe is 7mm. That nut had just worked itself loose and the spring expanded causing it to no open the throttle enough to keep running.
By accident, set my idle back at 500, by tightening the nut. I drove it or about a week, thinking it may help my Mpg. It didn't, I had Zero acceleration, so I purchased a wrench and adjusted it to 1000. Now I have learned it should be slightly less, I will adjust it the next warm day in KY.
May want to check there first!! Easy fix!!
