what can be the symtoms of a high idle(1.2k around there)? I think my throttle cable may be messed up.

most likely either your oxygen sensor is going bad or you need to adjust the idle screw.

Are you getting really bad gas mileage? If not, you can scratch out the O2 sensor as a possibility. If there's any doubt in your mind, though, in the FAQ section of 240sx.org, there is a procedure to test your O2 sensor. Go check it out and then decide if it's your O2 sensor. Just trying to save you $40.

actually, that was a decent question. I have my SR idling at like 1200rpm's cuz if I don't it starts to get all jumpy with the idle. Crazy stuff...

Mine was idling at 1500 recently...turns out it had a clogged O2 sensor. It was running rich, hesitating, sucking gas, all your symptoms, basically.

If you find that's the problem, and you replace it, you're probably going to need to clean/replace your plugs as well (mine were black-fouled from overly rich mix).

Rough idle can be any of a dozen things. SEARCH for rough idle, it's been discussed a million times.

Check your AIV connections and valves, and your IAA, older cars tens to have idleing problems when these go... check them...

Also it doesn't hurt to run some tb cleaner through your system... there is also a good chance your throttle plate is staying slightly more opened then it's supposed to, this has happened with cars that have cruise control...

Check your sensor grounds...
