Iv been trying to set my idle all day,Its at about 900 rpm,And the screw in the middle of the intake manifold is all the way tight. And when i unplug the TPS the idle goes up to 1,400 rpm and wont come down any,Is that normal?Im trying to set the timing too,I can get it to 15btc but the CAS is all the way clockwise no more room to advance.Sould i just leave it at 900rpm idle and 15btc with the CAS all the way clockwise? The car runs very stong like that. This is on a s13 motor.

Wait you have the CAS all the way at the end of the slots? I bet that is causing your idleing problems, should be closer to center assuming its on the right gear tooth when it was put in.

yes set it back to base timing very easy to do. get it to TDC if you have the valve cover off just look for the front lobes in both cams , they should be pointing away from each otherintake cam pointing to right fender(pass) and exaust cam pointing to left fender (drivers). second look and the crank pulley and make sure it is set to TDC, should be the very first line.remove the CAS and look for the sqaure notch and line it up with the yellow dot furtherest from the gear or CAS then slide it back in. when it slides in the gear will rotate and then line up with the next dot . that should be base timing, very simple. good luck

you dont need to pull off the valve cover, just pull out the first spark plug and stick a long extension down there and set it a TDC( you will know its there because the extension will be all the way up and itll be on the mark)

I had an issue when checking my timing where it was reading way off, like 0btdc. I knew it had to be pretty close because the idle was dead on and it hadn't been removed since I received the clip.

I warmed the car up and unplugged tps. I have the same thing...like 1400. With tps connected it idles at like 800 or 750. What I found and it is sortof mentioned in the FSM is to rev the car to about 3k about 3 times. Once I did that and I checked it with a gun it was dead up 15btdc. If I remember right before I revved it the timing was floating when checking it. Oh well just though I would share.
