About 2 months ago, I got a collection of maintenance/tune-up parts. This included some normal Seafoam, and a can of Seafoam: Trans-Tune.

I put the entire Trans-Tune bottle in the transmission fill hole, as instructed on the can. I think it did what it was supposed to, exept I noticed that the motor was idling at about 550RPMs.Not a big deal, I thought, because I was going to replace the trans fluid in another week. So I did that (drained about 5qts of fluid, changed the trans fluid filter, cleaned the pan, etc). Since the trans holds 9 qts of fluid, I did another 4 qt flush about a week after that to try to change out as much old fluid as possible (the stuff was sickly blackish with a slight red tint, not too good).

Anyway, after changing the fluid and all, I noticed that it was still idling at about 550 RPMs. Now, I did a lot of things during that time period, including new plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the MAFS, changed the engine oil, changed the radiator fluid, all new belts, some new hoses, and a new O2 sensor.

It seemed to dramatically reduce my "greyish smoke after idling" problem, but it still frequently idles at 550 at stops. Even with the A/C on full blast, it idles at 750.Park idles it at about 800-900, when at the same time the drive gear idles it in 550.

Now, I'm not complaining, because the way I figure, it idles lower therefore using less gas, which is awesome because gas prices = an arm and a leg these days. However, I'm not too sure about how good this is. Will having it idle like this damage something?

Unoriginal way to answer I know, but I give all the credit back to the one who first answered in this manner :D

Or you can adjust your idle screw. Its on the rear passenger side of your engine. Twist it clockwise a little while the engine is running :)By the way, engine additives can destroy your oxygen sensor after a few days. You might want to check it out if the idle adjustment doesnt work out for you.

I just read that you drive an automatic, and all of the sympoms you read off are somewhat normal for an auto. I really wouldnt worry so much, the auto transmission is gonna eat up a few rpms when idleing.

yea additive can destroy, i saw a guy put some flush is his car and destroyed it. That sludge was the the only thing holding his car togehter. Even i saw a guy flush radiator and his head gasket went after that. Beware of high milage :)

Two months later, it's still fluctuating a little in the 600-700 range, but from what I've noticed it doesnt burn as much oil, plus, after I did my tune up, I get about 350 average miles per tank (as opposed to the old 250-270). It certainly didnt hurt!

APC as in A Perfect Circle, not the American Parts Company.

Plus, my middle name is trouble.
