As the thread says, my idle for the last week or two has been absolutely horrible. When I first start the car in cold weather it goes up to 1500 and stays there, occasionally dropping to 1000 for some reason and then instantly popping back up to 1500.. once the car is warm it idles fine, EXCEPT when the motor is fine and I turn it off, and then I let the engine sit for 2 minutes at start it up again.. what happens is the idle climbs up slowly to 1800 and then drops instantly to 1500 and then starts going VRM.. VRM... VRM...VRM.... shooting up to 1800, and then falling back to 1500 and repeating over and over, and the frequency of it gets slower and slower until it finally stops... what the hell is wrong with my car?

Any help for this poor sap would be appreciated guys :confused

your idle control is hunting for some reason. either you have a vaccum leak or something is hanging open. try doing a intake cleaning. most dealers have a kit for doing this most importantly the throttle chamber needs to be cleaned so point that out. see if this helps your condition. there have been problems with AIV's causeing idle problems. try searching 240 technical on AIV and see if any of those problems sound like yours. [This is assuming you even have the device.]

I removed the AIV, and while it did improve my throttle response down low a BIT.. it didnt really help anything else much. Ive looked into my intake before and it was pretty clean.

check your pcv valve see if it might be sticking open. its a pain to get to but if your sure no vaccum lines are cracked or broken that is a posibility too.

it can if its not set right.. you need to set it at .5volts at rest with the engine warmed up.
