sorry this is a duplicate from the 240 forum but i thought about it and thought i would prob. get more help in here......ok. i have a decently built na/ka. this past saturday i installed an altima exhaust cam on intake and s14 232 cam on exhaust. i have the cam timing dead on and the ignition timing was set at 20deg with a timing light. now car has a cool sounding loping idle and alot more usable hp. but my question is when i checked with my consult at idle when hot the timing is fluctuating between 13 to 22 pretty rapidly. before the swap, the last time ichecked with consult it stayed pretty constant at idle. i know the cams are right and the dist. was set at 20 but what would make the ecu fluctuate the timing like that? any suggestions? or is it normal with a bigger cam like that? i thought the ign timing should stay set but apparently the ecu is picking up something and constantly trying to adjust it. thanks for any help

with a more aggressive cam, you should expect to see some idle roughness. What's the vac sitting at?

i expected a rough idle but when i checked the ecu with the consult the timing iself is fluctuating..bounces from 22 to like 13 back and forth pretty rapidly...i havent checked vacuum yet..where do you think it should be at idle?

a pretty healthy engine should be puttin somewhere about mid to high 20 hg's. after a cam job, depending on how aggressive it is, can dip to 10-15 lol.

when checking your timing, pull the tps when it's hot. it's helped me to at least stabilize that bouncing idle a bit when I check my timing.
