it's whenever i stop quick or when braking for a turn, and even sometimes when i just start the car, it just drops right down. sometimes it almost stalls (the oil and batt light come on)

i was wondering if it can be a faulty MAF. it's really bad during the summer. it was killing me last year, and then when it cooled down outside, it stopped and i've been actually very happy with the car.. it maybe did it once to me on a warm day. but now, it's nice out again and it's ****in stalliin on me like crazy.

-the idle bounces between like 400-800rpms when idleing-when i make quick stops, or if i'm going too slow and let go of the gas, most of the time it stalls. now sometimes i just throw into neutal and play with the gas a bit while braking with my left foot...it keeps it from dying out on me.\

anybody have any ideas?

do u have the ka or thr SR?check all your vac lines, might also be the iacv valve thats located behind the block manifold side,also check all the cuplers if your boostin but first thing to do is check all the vacum lines especially if the look old try that first

it's a kamy concern is i dont think it's the vacuum lines.they seem to be in good shape, and it's really specific to the warm climate and when the cars warmed up it gets bad when stopping at red lights and stop signs. i got a new brake booster which i'm going to put in, the only problem i got with that is it must be for a diff year 240, and the vacuum line hookup is on the other side, so i'm going to be replacing the lines anyway.

i just dont think this is going to fix it, i have a feeling it has something to do with a temperature sensor or the intake system

sounds like a vac or mafs issue. Its probably a good idea to change the CTS regardless considering how expensive gas is.

CTS = coolant temperature sensor

I've been noticing a lot of ppl posting and having issues with their CTS (myself included) so who knows, maybe there are a lot of cars that are starting to hit the milage marker of the CTS...

But you should check the connectors to both the MAF sensor and the CTS (and while you're at it the injectors) b/c corrosion can cause some bad readings going to your ECU

Is there a way to use a multi-meter/ohmmeter to check the MAF or perhaps a diagnostic harness?

Also if the MAF is faulty or just dirty would checking the computer for codes yield results?

cts = 10-20 bucks.

The mafs cleaning is a great suggestion. The ECU isn't really all that great for detecting MAFS issues. I've long since lost faith in the ECU's MAFS issue detection when I had an oscillating idle on my SR about 2 or 3 years ago.

The multimeter will show you the light.

Could the CTS really be a cause of this issue? Granted they aren't too expensive but wouldn't the car be more liable to overheat rather than stall out and die if the CTS was faulty?

cts's if they're sending bad data to the ecu will make the car run rich or lean depending on what temp it is sending to the ecu. This does sound more like a mafs issue than a CTS issue but changing the CTS is always good measure considering how expensive gas is now.

That said, also might want to poke around with your iacv-aac, give it a clean first see if that clears the issue or try replacing it.

You should first remove the AIV valve and see what happens. There is a faq on this. Keep all the parts because you need to have this valve for emissions/environment tests. Your aiv is likely sending water and exhaust into your air intake and causing alot of problems.

You should then take apart your idle control valve. here are some links related to iacv:

uploaded some pics in the second thread below. Searching in the forums is like looking for needle in haystack. the first link is also very good.the third link shows the valve on the car . if you know where the screw is for adjusting idle you know where valve is. it is behind air intake close to firewall on passenger side. this stuff should be in sticky because it is hard to find in search.
