Backround, I have a 1996 240sx se. all stock rebuilt motor.

So I was out last night taking some pictures of my friends car and mine. We decided to stop at taco bell for a few min. When I came out and tried to start my car it died.

Starting it again I pressed the gas and held it down. revving low for about 30 seconds. at that point it idled around 500. pretty low compared to my normal 800. The check engine light came on as all this was happening. I figured my cat had finally clogged and that was the problem.

When I got home I ran it on the obd2 scanner and it came up as a p0505- Idle control system. I have no idea of where this came from suddenly. I searched and no one seems to have has this on a 40.

Any Ideas as to where to start searching? thanks

Download the ODB2 FSM - EC section, its an easy print to follow. Your going to have power, ground, and one or two idle signals for the selonids that open or close with idle. Make sure power is good there (either 5 or 12 volts) If you have power to the IAC, then replace IAC.

Easy problem
