What's up guys, I haven't posted in a very long time, but recently I've started working on my ca again and now I'm stuck on something.

When checking/adjusting the timing do you need to disconnect the idle switch or any other sensors before adjusting the timing to 15*? The FSM doesn't say anything about disconnecting any sensors or anything, but I've read somewhere online that you should disconnect the idle switch.

And my second question is, I can't get my car to idle past 500 rpms, the idle adjusting screw is just about falling off. =/ I adjusted the timing to 15* but I disconnected the idle switch when doing the timing. (I didn't notice any difference in the way the engine idled when I messed around with the CAS during timing)ECU throws no codes (besides 55) and I'm stuck on why it wont idle past 500 rpms?!?! Any ideas?

For the past 2 years I've adjusted my idle using the VPC I have hooked up, but I want to actually adjust the idle with the VPC knobs set to neutral first. Well thanks in advance!

did you think to maybe try replacing your IACV?

Download the FSM from the FAQ.

EF & EC 26 (Refers you to EF & EC 22)

Is that IACV the Idle air adjusting unit (IAA), Auxiliary air control valve (AAC) or both? Or is that something completely different? Do you know if the ca18de idle air adjusting unit swaps over fine to our ca18det's? If so I can just stop by a junk yard and get one.

Also float_6969, thanks I'll just re-time it the way the fsm says to. (I was just confused because somewhere online I read you need to unplug the idle sensor first, just wanted to check and make sure there wasn't something missing in the fsm lol).

Thanks guys!!

There isn't an idle sensor. You have to unplug the TPS. There is more to it than that, just read the FSM.

I appologize for the intrusion, but I have also wondered if any idle controls from other Nissan vehicles (google search revealed nothing for me) are interchangable with the CA. You would think that Nissan would standardize some of the parts so that they could save money using crossover parts.

See this is where my confusion starts. You just said you should unplug the TPS when doing timing, but on page 144 (EF & EC 22) it say's nothing about disconnecting the TPS or anything else (only the coil pack so you can connect a spark plug wire between the coil pack and the spark plug). Maybe I'm just reading this FSM wrong.

Sorry about the idle sensor, I meant to say idle switch (which is part of the tps, but has it's own plug).

Is there another page on timing? or am I just dumb?

Sorry to bring this old post back to life, but I just wanted to let you guys know that the problem is fixed!! ^_^

It turns out I had a ton of wiring issues. That brown wire that supply's 12v to the O2 sensor, AND the AAC valve wasn't even hooked up, also I think something is wrong with my wiring harness since there was no conductivity from my ecu to my water temp sensor, AND my knock sensor, so I re wired those things as well.

I also took off and cleaned that idle air adjusting unit (was really dirty) and after that i was able to adjust the idle to 850 rpms!! I've adjusted the timing, and now my car starts up right away (first time every time). I no longer have to feather the gas when it's cold, nor do I have trouble starting it in the cold (I live in Las Vegas so right now it's about 30-40 degrees in the morning when I go to work). No more stuttering when I accelerate, or backfires every time I shift either.

Next on my to do list is stick my LM-1 wide band O2 sensor in the tail pipe and test drive her and adjust the VPC/GCC to get me ideal air/fuel ratios throughout the rpm band and I'll be hitting the tracks once again!! I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.
