idle and driving problem

hey guys ive been having some weird problems with my s14 sr20det. when i am driving if i am to take it out of gear and let it coast. the idle goes down to like 400rpms. and sometimes just cuts off. i dont get why its doing this and its just recntly starting doing it. its bad cus when i go to slow down at a light it turns off and my brakes arent really there so its kinda scary. also the idle when its turned on is at like 1400rpms. it used to be at like 800-900. and all of a sudden its all diferent. any help would be awesome. thank you.

nicely ask the ECU what the problem is

Hey Todd ^_^

Could be your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) Try cleaning it with carb cleaner and see if that helps.

yea im guna try that tommorow. i also heard it can be knock sensor, coolant temp sensor. and other stuff, but do any of those really make sense? knock is the only one i feel that could make sense besides idle air. but i found out that my vts works. so i have vtec at least

mine is doin the same thing if i rev it it and let it idle down with the clutch in it bogs and almost dies, or does die...im right there with ya bro..let me know whats up...

today i took off my throttle body and intake manifold and cleaned them out real good with intake cleaner and it was dirty as anything in there. i almost made sure to take off the iacv and clean it seperately. it took a long time to start up after and smoked a lot but its running better then before. the idle is better and it hasnt died yet. i duno if thats whats wrong with it cus there is also a clicking noise that u can hear when u have the vtc plugged in and in any gear including reverse. but when u unplug the the vtc sensor it does not click. anybody know anything about that as well?

does the controller allow you to set valve lash? or is it in some kinda pre setting?

its like hondas vtec. its pre set. its something the s14 sr's have just for a little more torque really from the start. u cant hear it or anything. but its there and usually doesnt work on most s14s
