So as it stands, I got my cooling problem fixed (cracked tstat housing, redtop sr20det), and got everything running.

I now have a new problem. The engine won't rev past 2500rpm, which I'm blaming on the MAF wiring (which I have to check out tomorrow). Also, the acceleration is pathetic; even when I'm flooring it, it's sluggish, no pull whatsoever.

Idle also dips low intermittently, but I'll check back on that once I've solved these problems.

Another candidate I may be looking at is the IACV. Some people in other threads even said that it was a faulty coolant sensor, as the hotter the engine gets, the more it struggles.

It's a mouthful, but does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this accel. and rev problem, or if they could be connected? Thanks

For the rev problem, deinfitely the MAF. Double check the wiring and make sure you are getting the correct voltages and ground, according to FSM.

Check timing for lack of acceleration. Make sure plugs are also gapped rights.

If I remeber right, a CTS that sees too much temperature will actually pull timing out (don't quote me on that though). Check voltages according to FSM.

I have a spare CTS sitting around that has less than 50 miles on it, and if you want, just pay for shipping and you can have it . That CTS doesn't work with the S14 SR, which is what I have.

For the idle dips, make sure you have no vacuum leaks, and clean out your IACV.

That thing about the CTS pulling timing at high temperatures would make sense, in relation to the acceleration problem... my acceleration was fine before the engine overheated, now I've lost acceleration.

I'm definitely checking timing; so far signs point to mistiming.

As for the MAF, I'm just about to check voltages in 5 mins, just letting the engine come up to operating temp.

****! My car is starting, but won't run for more than 10 seconds. Any thoughts? IACV or timing maybe?

I'm going to pick up some carb cleaner now.

Thanks, Thoughtful

Have you checked the compression or done a leak down? Overheating + loss of power = bad thoughts

I hear that, I'm not looking forward to bad thoughts.

I'll pick up a compression tester and hope for the best..

update: engine now sounds like a lawn mower.

I had Kinda the same problem, The lawn mower sound is probaly ur plugs fouled out. I would check your tps..i was also having acceleration problems due to the adjustment on the tps.

Good news, timing was bad, and TPS wasn't set up right.

Power is back!

Now I just have to check the smoke that's coming out of the exhaust!
