Idle Air Reprogram?

My 97 J30 recently had its battery disconnected for a couple days. A while later the check engine light came on. Checked the code - idle air control valve. My mechanic friend thinks that the idle air needs reprogramming. He also thinks it has to be done at a dealer.

Does this have to be done at a dealer (they want ~$100)? Is this accomplished with a drive sequence (i.e., can I try doing it myself)?

Thanks for your help.

Evan

Most things FIAC/AAC Valve and Air Regulator related are covered here. There's nothing to re-program that I'm aware of, as things either get sticky/dirty or solenoids fail electrically. Print a copy of these instructions for your mechanic. Good luck.
