Idle adjustment - No change in idle

Turning my idle speed adjustement screw produced almost no difference in the idle speed. I did this with the throttle position connector disconected as per the service manual, page Ef & EC 30. Am I missing something?

Also the service manual states that the idle speed is controled by the ECU. If so then what is the purpose of doing any manual adjustment?

Please anybody shed some light on this.Thanks Ken
