Ok. I tried a search but it didn't turn up anything, too much non-related stuff to sort through.

Anyway,

I am thinking of combining my two project cars and making my Vert the turbo car. I know it's floppy but its rigidity is not the concern of this thread. My issue is I want to keep the car livable for my fiancé in case she has to drive it. The issue is she severely damaged her knee skiing a while back and can't really stand the strain of driving a manual. Are there any automatic transmissions that mount to the KA and could stand up to 400-450hp to give me a margin of safety? The factory auto in my Vert is already acting up so it's going anyway. Any info on stronger automatics would be greatly appreciated.

adapter plate and whatever you want.

xcessive make one for the VG, IDK what the stock KA trans would hold up to with a better torque converter.

I'm not too knowledgeable on high power auto trans stuff. I am sure you could find a domestic trans to do it though.

There is actually a member on here, onosqv, that had a turbo vert with automatic transmission. It seemed to work fine for him, and he autocrossed the crap out of it.

I think as long as you dont go crazy with the boost and you get your trans rebuilt properly, it should hold up.

It may not be my place to say. But the money and research involved in putting a not stock or domestic transmission in your car (that you would rip out eventually any way) wouldnt it be easier and cheaper to just find a cheap beater like a honda or something of the sort? why do the work twice? and why let your fiance drive your rare vert :chuckle:

Also keep in mind you would have to get a custom drive shaft made also. So for the ~$1500 it would take to convert why wouldn't you just get you a beater lol

Bah drive shaft is the easy part.

There was a member on here with an auto and a paddle shifting setup and drifted the crap out of it. So I am guessing with a better torque converter and a decent auto trans from a KA( which by the way in my area can be found for $100 or less or free from someone doing a 5spd swap, as long as they don't have to lift it into your car they usually don't care. I have a spare just chilling in the corner in case the other one in the koop dies) you could have fun on the cheap.

I want to say they will easily rock 300-330hp and throw it down. I am sure someone makes universal ecu's to control shift points so i am sure the trans could be tuned in that respect as well, or just unplug the rev sensor and shift off the speedo, shifts harder as I remember and was maybe a little peppier when flooring it.

Also why are we bringing another car into the mix? Hondas are more expensive than nissans, I'd probably would buy a $1500 nissan before buying a $1500 honda(which would most likely be a motorcycle).

Generally speaking, the automatic in the 240SX is a very well-built unit. I'd rebuild the factory one. If it burns up, get another one. I've seen a lot of crazy setups with the stock automatic and if you get it beefed up right, it can handle a lot more than you would imagine.
