Have a Gen 4 Maxima SE that needs a left halfshaft. 2 questions. How do I tell if the differential is limited slip and whats a good source for quality halfshafts with good rubber (not that damn plastic ) boots?

Thanks - new/old Maxima owner

First of all, don't just replace the half shaft. It's just as easy to pop the whole axle out and replace it. Then there are no worries and very little mess.

I got my axles from a local parts store that sell CarDone remanufactured axles.

$55 + plus core.

I actually have an extra passenger side one for a non-lsd Auto if you're interested. I only needed the driver's side because the boot broke and was making noise, but I bought the pair thinking the other would need replacing soon, but it's still going strong after 25k miles.

Thanks for the info. I just have to figure out if this thing's got a LSD to order the shaft. Different P/N with and without limited slip @ autozone.

To my knowledge, only the I30t with the 5 speed came with LSD.

Do a search for LSD in the Maxima/I30 forum as this topic has already been discussed if I remember correctly.

well there are many ways to tell. but lift the car and see if both wheels turn the same way. Also if its the original transmission you can look at the engine plate under the hood. And fyi some max's did have lsd not all. Check for a V in your trany code under the hood.

That is the certain way to tell. V in the VIN#

I'm pretty sure the The jack up & spin both whels thing does not work in this case.

btw: it was standard equipment on any (5sp or auto) "t" model I30, optional on others. For the Max...i dunno.
