Identifying the year of an RB20DET

As the title says. I'm interested in finding out the year of my RB20. I know, "SEARCH". Been there done that, obviously didn't leave the correct burnt offering at the alter Received my motor-set and mounts, etc. today and am curious about the year of the motor, not that is any solid indicator of mileage, or usage, just being curious.

No way to really tell if you dont have the VIN tag. But if your Timing cover says RB20 on it then it is the earlier of the RB20's.89-93 Silver top RB20DET

an rb20 with 'rb20' embossed on the timing cover is from a 89-90 car, where the ones lacking that are from a 91-93 car.

how do you tell with the vin tag???

you identify the year with thr 10th digit of the vin. heres what the letters stand for:1988 (J), 1989 (K), 1990 (L), 1991 (M), 1992 (N), 1993 (P), 1994 (R), 1995 (S), 1996 (T), 199 7(V), 1998 (W), 1999 (X), 2000 (Y)------2001(1), 2002 (2), 2003 (3)

if thats the case my vin plaque off of my front clip says it is a 95, code "S", how is that if its and rb20. Heres my chassis tag info:

correct me if I am wrong, but I think that letter system is only for USDM vins, not japanese ones (thus why it doesn't make sense on your rb20)
