A couple of days ago I traded some extra parts I had for what the guy said was a stock CA T25 turbo because mine went caput. Well I just got a turbo in the mail yesterday that I thought was a stock CA T25, that is until I saw it. I knew in the back of my mind something wasnt quite right because it looked bigger and was significantly heavier. Anyway, I went to my friends garage today and took off the blown turbo, and thats when i realized that the turbo I recieved in the mail was not the right one.I know it is a nissan turbo, because it says on the turbo. But thats about all i know. Here are some pics of both the turbos together. If someone could please identify this for me that would be great.

You could make or buy a manifold for that type of turbo.

It looks like that is ACTUALLY the T25 off the Z31..

I found this image on the http://www.redz31.com/turbofaq/turbo.faq.htm

They say the one on the LEFT is the T25 from an 88-89 and it looks IDENTICAL to the one you posted.(The one on the right is the T3)

Somehow that just doesn't look like a t3 to me... It looks alot like a t2, but the bolt pattern difference puzzles me.

Wow, I just learned something new. I didn't know the Z31 ever had a T25 on it. WTF was Nissan thinking? A T25 on a 3L V6?

Well, i guess im stuck with this mystery turbo. Oh well, I got it for free basically. I guess i'll just keep it in a box until i find someone that might want to buy it.

On a side note, i was thinking about getting a T28 BB turbo after Christmas, do you guys suggest any mods i might have to do before doing this, or is it a simple bolt on affair. Im sure it has been covered before multiple times and i'll try searching but wanted to ask anyway while i have this post going.

Depending on what turbo you are coming from, intake pipe needs to be modified, hotpipe that goes from the turbo to the intercooler needs to be modified. Oil return line has to be redone (on mine at least). Housing needs to be clocked if you are using a stock manifold.

I was thinking about this set up i saw. Would this take care of most of the problems you talked about if i buy all the accesories that are listed?

Yeah, most of that stuff is good. I wouldn't pay $25 for that return hose though. You can get it just as easily from an auto parts store for about $2-3. Also, you still have to modify the hotpipe. You can use the turbo outlet piece from your existing turbo.

Raise the compression. Lower the boost. Faster spool. An attempt at better/smoother overall performance than the previous years stock.

The turbo does appear to be a T25, but it is not from a Z31.

This is totally not CA engine forum related, but I don't care.

So you're saying that the VG30E(T) had lower compression and a bigger turbo in the older Z31's and then higher compression and a smaller turbo in the later years to improve throttle response?

Exactly what Mitsubishi did with the DSM... 1st gens had 7.8:1 compression and a 14b turbo (~260-280whp capable) and then the 2nd gens had 8.5:1 compression and a T25 turbo (220whp on a good day).

Well if you want to improve throttle response, it works! Bad for midrange to peak HP, but you have to do what sells cars, and if people complain about turbo lag you've gotta fix it.
