So a friend of mine's SR developed what we thought was a slight rod knock the other day. After pulling the oil pan and replacing them one by one they all looked perfect. We were about put the oil pans, windage trays, hardware, etc... in the oil pan when I noticed some small pieces in it. After pulling the valvecover and looking around the crankcase and head we are stumped as to what it might be/ have been. Maybe part of the oil pump? One of the pieces in the picture (silver in color) appears to be a c-clip. Anyone with in-depth experience of SR's please help us out!

Any way you slice it, you should rebuild that engine.

If its chunks of an oil pump, that means you were running on no oil pressure... NOT GOOD.

If its chunks of a bearing... well, yeah, rebuild.

If its chunks of something that some A-hole kid randomly threw in there... its still not good and you could have damaged other components.

I figured it out. Engine should be fine. The turbos bearings disintegrated and got into the pan via the return line so there wasn't a chance for them to damage anything else.

We weren't. Engine was running great. We wasn't even driving it hard when this happened and we were running stock boost. We parked it, started it up a half-hour later and it sounded like a rod knocking. Pretty crazy failure.
