HI this is my first post. The lsd on my xe=v6 '95 pathfinder is clacking and can be felt thru the entire vehicle. It got alot worse after servicing. Put in tube of
Valvoline diff. cleaner with GL5 synthetic,a tube of valvoline lsd additive and a quart of Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer compatible with lsd's. Been driving for a week=still clacking. I'm looking for a wrecking yard lsd but other than than a "use lsd oil " sticker, how can i tell an open from a lsd so I buy the right one? Thanks

The orange "LSD" sticker is arguably the toughest part of the vehicle. If it's fallen off or nonexistent, you can verify whether it's an LSD diff by rotating the wheels with the axle raised; if both wheels spin in the same direction, it's LSD.

What is Valvoline differential cleaner? I've never heard of it. Also, do not use Lucas oil stabilizer in your differential as it will lead to foaming of the lubricant, and dilute the gear oil's additive pack.

Welcome to NICO.

Thank you for the quick and informative reply. My mechanic hasn't heard of the differential cleaner either. I had a Valvoline "quick lube" type shop change the fluids in my diffs and transfer case. Before draining and flushing they put a tube of a non solvent gear box cleaner into the three units and drove the car for ten to fifteen minutes before draining and flushing. I don't recall the exact name of the cleaner but it was from valvoline. I'm going to really enjoy this website, Thanks Bob
