Recently I installed Eibach Pro-kit springs on my S13 240SX. I'm satisfied with the performance although nearly 2" of drop is a little rougher then I though it would be. On a driveway I go to almost everyday I clear the edge with the faintest scrape of my cat converter's heat shield and about 0.5" of clearance of my frame rails.

At some point I want to replace my tires but most of the decent tires are sized for 205/50/16. According to my calculations ride height would decrease by about 15 mm which cuts the clearance really close.

The easiest thing would be to put washer or a plate between the strut and the strut tower. I'm not sure but I think a different sized rubber bushing on the top of the strut would also increase the ride height. I suppose I could also keep a second set of rims/tires or go to 16s, but I would rather not because I like the stock rims. Anyone else have any other ideas?

The easiest thing would be to buy some very good and ultra sticky tires in size 205/55/16.

That should eliminate all your problems.

Whoops, that was a terrible typo. It was supposed to be 205/50/15s, I'm using the 7 spoke 4-lugs.

What the hell size tires are you using for some 205/50's that are going to drop your height by 15mm??

a 15 mm drop is ridiculous for a different size tire. so i think youre crazy.

we're talking about the s13 right?

why're you running a 50 series on the 15 inch wheels...when stock size is a 60 series side?

Hmm, I went back over my calculations and realized I forgot to convert from the outer diameter of the tire to the radius so the ride height difference was double what it should be.

Currently I have 195/60/15s on, outer diameter is 195 * 0.6 = 117 mm. The radius of the tire is therefore 117 / 2 = 58.5 mm.

The tires I want to use are 205/50/15s, outer diameter is 205 * 0.5 = 102.5. The radius of the tire is therefore 102.5 / 2 = 51.25 mm.

So I will actually have a calculated ride height drop of 7.25 mm leaving me with about 5+/-2 mm of clearance. The only reason I'm considering 205/50/15s is they seem to be about the only R-compound tires that will fit on the stock wheels. There are some tires available in 225/50/15, but 8.8 inches of tire on a 6 inch wide rim?

The only reason for all this nonsense is because this car is being used for Solo II autocross DSP. I COULD just buy the best 205/60/15s tires I can find but when other people are running R-compounds thats going to be a tough handicap. I can afford to spend extra on my tires when I replace them, but buying a set of R-compounds, rims, and still having to replace the old tires is way out of my budget.
