Hmm, I went back over my calculations and realized I forgot to convert from the outer diameter of the tire to the radius so the ride height difference was double what it should be.
Currently I have 195/60/15s on, outer diameter is 195 * 0.6 = 117 mm. The radius of the tire is therefore 117 / 2 = 58.5 mm.
The tires I want to use are 205/50/15s, outer diameter is 205 * 0.5 = 102.5. The radius of the tire is therefore 102.5 / 2 = 51.25 mm.
So I will actually have a calculated ride height drop of 7.25 mm leaving me with about 5+/-2 mm of clearance. The only reason I'm considering 205/50/15s is they seem to be about the only R-compound tires that will fit on the stock wheels. There are some tires available in 225/50/15, but 8.8 inches of tire on a 6 inch wide rim?
The only reason for all this nonsense is because this car is being used for Solo II autocross DSP. I COULD just buy the best 205/60/15s tires I can find but when other people are running R-compounds thats going to be a tough handicap. I can afford to spend extra on my tires when I replace them, but buying a set of R-compounds, rims, and still having to replace the old tires is way out of my budget.
