Hey guys and gals, I just registered my car in Cali, moved from GA where only rear tags are required, and am told I have to get this front tag on if I don't want to get ticketed. Anyone have any pics from DIYs or know of any kits for this? I would really like to avoid destroying my front bumper

Just don't run a front plate.

When you get a ticket, pay it and go about your day. That's what I do.

^ that is stupid once they catch on that giving you ticket doesn't work they'll start fining you more, probably start impounding your (impound fees suck) maybe suspend your License. besides who wants to pay any kind of ticket any ways your better off avoiding them.

Not really. In the va it's a fixed fine of $25 plus court fees and it is a non-moving violation, so no points.

yea that sounded really dumb. I been driving with no front plate for about 2 years and no problems. A lot of cars don't have then if you really look. I'm not 100% sure but my friend said it is just a $10 fine in CA. I'm fine with that.

I think I need something a little more solid than tape, although I will consider it if the bracket I try to make doesn't look good. I found two holes on the frame on the driver side in the opening by the fog lamp that I will anchor it to to accomplish something similar to that Civic in the pic above. I am a big fan of symmetry so we will see if I like it in the end or if I decide to tape it or screw it to the bumper.

Anyone have pics of these on a Kouki? I found some kits but they seemed like generic kits, not vehicle specific.

Maybe we could help you out better if you told us what kind of bumper you have.

I think the only model specific plate mount would be the one that comes stock from Nissan. Most people seem to try as hard as they can to avoid front license plates, like me, I live in San Diego but I'm rockin a single Michigan plate. Being military has its perks

maybe i missed that you said you didnt want holes, but there is preset holes in the bumper if i recal in that ugly flat section of the bumper. Now i just put mine in my windsheild cause i dont want it on the front and i have never got a ticket (ohio law says we need fronts too = gayshas). Or you could put velcro on the bumper and plate and then put it on for a no hole solution. There is a real nice dealer around here that does that to all its lotuses and stuff.

Sweet i was planning on removing mine soon when i build the car/paint it, i was wondering what VA fine was cause front license plates are for squares. I don't get it, it's not like a cop ever reads your plate from the front, "oh this guy is speeding, let me race in front of him to read his numbers off the front plate backwards through my mirror when theres even lights on the back one.." Pennsylvania and Georgia seem to be doing fine without them, the states didn't like cease to exist without front plates, they just want our cars to look like shlt with there government brands on them.

Heres what I do..

When pulled over, tell the cop you just got pulled over last week in a town nearby and you recevied a warning and a factory notice that says tthe dealer has to install it for free since there is no mounting location [if there are no holes in the bumper etc]. Problem solved!

They CAN say that a ziptie is not a safe enough way to mount it.

Bottom line is this,

If you are in CA and don't want to be hassled by the police and pay fines here and there, just bolt your license plate on. It's a street car, you're not going to be super cool just because you have NO front plate.

Like somebody mentioned up above, get 2 L brackets and put them on the car. Real simple.
