Hello I am having a problem with my 240sx. It's iddling really high around 2k and when the engine warms up it revs up to 2k then drops to 1.5k and so forth. My friend and I have looked at it and we think it's the TPS. We just want to know if there could be anything else.

there is an air valve that opens when the engine is cold to help it warm up by idling higher. how high was your idle in the summer or whenever it was before this problem started?

The idle was fine before this started happening. 700 right where it should be. At first there was a broken vacum hose but we fixed that thinking that we be it. But it still is doing the same thing.

The first thing you need is a service book do you have a Haynes manual or something because it is a must to have when working on your car. Second do you have a multi meter (volt meter) if so you need to check the voltage at a couple different sensors by inserting a back probe into the back of the connector while it is still plugged in (paper clips work good as back props) but without the book to tell you what voltage, or ohms you should have it won’t do you much good. Off the top of my head you should have like .5 volts at idle and 4.5 volts at WOT. But it is probably your idle air control valve or something like that.

It could be the fuel pump and regulator. My truck done the same thing and it got to a point where it would just cut off. Try that and also the fuel filter while your at it!

You need to look at you IACV. Thats most likely your problem. If your tps was bad you wouldn't be able to rev past 3-4k. Also search your *** off. There are a million threads about this topic.
