All,

This is my first car with Sunroof. Other day I went to open the cover for the sunroof and had actual ice on the inside of the sun roof, not dew but ice...Window was closed and not accidently left open

Is this normal or do I have a problem with the seal?

(I live in New England)

That's just too flippin' cold man!

In all seriousness, it sounds like you have a seal issue. I used to live in NWPA and had several sun roofs on vehicles. I never had any type of condensation freeze on the inside of the glass.

Have you checked your seal around the frame?

I'm not sure of how you would test it, unless it's still under warranty and you have the dealer try to figure it out.

Good luck

Depending on conditions, it is possible. I would try leaving the sunroof cover open to avoid trapping any condensation between it and the window glass.

If you have consistent, cold dry conditions this shouldn't happen, but if you have fluctuating temperatures, lots of moisture being brought into the vehicle then this can happen. If you give us a little more info. I think we can determine if you have a problem or not.

Do you have the frost on the inside of the windshield too, or just the sun roof? If it's just occuring on the sunroof and the windshielf and side windows are completely clear, then you may have a seal problem with that sunroof.

If you get day/night temps that straddle the freezing mark, this can also be a cause. When the temp is warmer during the day, above freezing, this causes the air to hold more moisture. If you trap that warm moist air inside the vehicle and the temp drops significantly to below freezing overnight, you come out in the morning and the inside of your windshield can be frosted over. This is even more of a problem if you bring excess moisture into the vehicle, such as snow on boots, and a car full of sweaty kids after sledding or skiing will really crank the moisture level up!

Let us know, I think the most relevant thing to check is if the frost is localized to just the sun roof. If so, it's probably not sealing properly.

All,

thx so much for all the great feedback. To answer the most recent question, the ice was only on the sunroof, insides of windshield and windows were fine.

I really hope it is not a seal issue, after 4 trannys, relplaced Axle and a few odds and ends I have really lost faith. Car is not even 2 yrs old and 28K mileage...

I'm sure kerraton nailed it. It's more than likely to do with trapped moisture in the vehicle and fluctuating temperatures. It's quite common here. My vehicle gets ice buildup inside quite often.

QUESTION Has anyone tried applying rain-x's fog remover to see if it prevents frost from forming up on the inside of the windsheild? I'm wondering if it would help since the idea behind the product is to prevent moisture building up on the glass.

That's a great idea! Go for it!
