I used to drive a full sized GMC and purchased my versa in the gas crysis.

Part of the reason i got the versa is because its front wheel drive.

I know many of you lower your cars, I was wondering how it handled the ice and snow. I live in oklahoma and we have every variation of weather you could imagine.

Ice storms, snow storms, tornados flooding, dry heat, hurricane type weather blowing in from the gulf of mexico. We see it all here.

For the most part its nice, but im just anticipating the bad.

I would like to hear your stories.

I remember in my truck i pulled a 180 at an overpass going 60 miles an hour because of black ice. I actually corrected it and kept on truckin. The truck has no weight in the back at all.

anyways. ice and snow?

I live in Quebec. We get many 16 + inch snowfalls, ice storms and -35 degrees Celsius.

Just don't worry. Your all good in Oklahoma.

My Versa is lowered. I fact ALL the cars I had for the past 8 years were lowered and winter driven.

I do not expect any problems with the V for this winter.

Well, if you're planning on seeing lots of snow with your versa, I don't recommend lowering it. You could bottom-out if you're on a road with ruts (you'll know what I mean if you live in a snowy climate).

It should handle very well, otherwise, on ice and snow. The Hatchback should handle a little bit better than the Sedan, in wintery conditions as well as in summery ones, in general. The trim level and option packages you selected, however, will determine if your Versa is WELL-EQUIPPED for snow-driving. I hope you went with the SL or the S with ABS Package, otherwise I would take it easy on the accelerator while driving in winter conditions, leave lots of space between you and the person ahead of you, brake gradually and steer into the fish tail if one happens on black ice. It's too bad these cars don't come with heated seats, eh (or even Heated Steering Wheel like the Maxima!)...

You don't have to have ABS to be safe, just don't be an idiot and slam on your breaks and god willing you'll be safe without it. I haven't had ABS in any of my cars including my Versa and I've never rear ended anyone in the snow.

Any one in Canada use the stock conti's in the winter or do you use winter tires? If you do run winter tires what brand of tires do you run?

We bought our Versa this past February when there was snow and ice on the roads and I wasn't real happy with the stock Conti's. We live on a bit of a hill (although nothing sever) and it did have some struggling here to climb it with about 2.5 inches of snow and slush present.

After 250 miles (a couple weeks later), we put on a set of BF Goodrich Traction T/A's and haven't look back since. Awesome tires and phenomenal water, snow, and ice traction in comparison. Sometimes it takes us a while to tend to the end of our driveway when the plow trucks pile up the snow, but the Traction T/A's chewed right through it with no problems.

V is no snow plow with stock tires & CVT.

6mt & winter tires best combo.

In my view 'L' in CVT is set too narrow range to duplicate selecting 2nd as with 6mt or 4at.

I have the CVT. This Christmas I'm making a trip for VA to northwest NY then driving straight to western OH. I know that I 90 west from Buffalo to Cleveland is were the winter tire will be required. I was looking at the new Michelin X-Ice 2 tires.

Hey ElDiablo,

Another OKC area Versa owner here. I know what you mean by the extreme weather, we get it all.

I have been driving in the midwest (Nebraska to Oklahoma) for over thirty years. The most important thing is your brain when driving in ice and snow. With that having been said, the Versa is about like any other small front wheel drive car, it will do fine with good tires, way better than a typical 2wd pickup. ABS is a huge plus, if you understand it's limitations and don't let it cause you to drive too fast.

What many of our northern friends don't understand about the ice and snow conditions in Oklahoma: many of the roads do not get cleared. The traffic beats the snow and slush into ice that refreezes at night, leaving two lanes of pure ice in the ruts. This can go on for weeks. Ice is the biggest problem here.

I would be interested in hearing the explanation to support this opinion.

I use the Conti's and had no problem . . . and we had our share of snow last winter.

[Toronto don't know from snow!]
