So not 100% sure but I am doing a thrown together setup on my ic rather then just buying the right one off eghey. So I was wondering because I'm pretty sure I have to throw some 3"(in diam) pipes into the mix. What I wanted to know is if straight pipes with no LIP will blow off of the couplers if I'm running stock boost even though they have hose clamps???Or should I have an exhaust shop put a bead around the ends to make a lip so the couplers don't pop off??Thanks

Have some bead welded on just to be sure. If you wanted to be really baller you could weld a nut on the pipe and have metal straps across the the joints bolted to the nuts. It takes the pulling force off the hoses and they only need to contain the pressure. It's crazy overkill but so what?

"It's crazy overkill but so what?" Well if that's the case I may as well V-Ban the sh*t out of everything and screw rubber couplers lmao, but hey last time I checked V-Bands weren't exactly cheap! I would weld everything together but everything is Aluminuminuminum sooooo no dice as I do not have a tig nor do I know how to use one So I will probably go with my original idear and have the exhaust shop weld some beads on the ends of the pipes I'm adding as they will not be aluminuminuminum:D And probably maybe mild steel or stainless but probably mild. I thought about using some flexible dryer hosing I'm sure all the ridges and light weight craplastic material would hold at least 30 psi:D Sooooo yeah, well thanks peeps for the advice, i'll go c mineke tomorrow!

V band clamps are for amateurs, you need wiggins clamps!

I just have generic exhaust tube piping for mine and it works fine. I may decide to paint it at some point, but it works for me.

Did you do anything to the tips at all or did you leave them just straight with no lip?

I didn't do the work, so I can't answer the question. Sorry. It's been working great, though.

I wouldn't leave them as is. I had some cut intercooler piping that I had tightened down pretty good and they managed to come loose when I was running it hard. Nothing like trying to put piping back together on the shoulder of the road and your car has about 3 inches of room underneath the front bumper.

Do it right, it will prevent headaches later.

Yeah very true. I plan on it. I just need something to get me by until I can have a shop finish the rest of the work the proper way:D

If anybody has problems with intercooler pipes blowing out p.s. lipped/beaded pipe end or not - brakecleaner and aerosal hairspray is your friend.

How about t-blolt clamps? I've been using them for years with un-beaded ic pipes, and I've never had a coupler pop off.....knock on wood

you could use one these and flare your own pipes.

thats an expander though, not really for this application.

it would flare the pipes end and the coupler in turn wouldnt fit.

bead roller for tubing, or a bead of weld metal.

or t-bolt clamps, or regular hose clamps with hairspray!

if you dont crank the shizzal out of it, it will just flare a bit of it....... enough for some meat for the clamp to bite
