IBA off Light on Dashboard with codes U1000, C1A22, and U0418

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum. At the beginning of October this year, I was driving down a dirt road and the IBA off light illuminated on the dashboard. When I pulled the codes, it said U1000, C1A22, and U0418 which are related to the Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Brake Booster Control Unit (BCU). Has anyone else had this problem before? If so how did you fix it?

I have already looked at the service manuals and I diagnosed the BCU connectors, and they are fine. I will be diagnosing the Brake Lamp and Stop Lamps that are located behind the brake pedal to figure out why the C1A22 code is being thrown tonight. I have already ordered a replacement BCU off eBay to see if it is a faulty BCU.

Outside of the service manuals, is there anything else I should look at on the car?

Check the two fuses in the small fuse & relay box on the left side of the engine compartment, one of those (#63) supplies the BCU and nothing else. Whether it's blown or not, check the big SMJ connectors in both of your kick panels for water intrusion. You probably know by now that some genius at Infiniti decided to locate the BCU at the righthand rear of the car, even though everything it controls is under the dash or in the engine box. That means the wiring travels through two SMJ's, one connecting the Engine Room harness to the Main harness under the dash, then across the car to another SMJ connecting Main to the Body #2 harness. So water on either side of the car can short or corrode things that shouldn't be shorted or opened. It also means the BCU is on its own, isolated leg of the CANbus, so any wiring issue in the Body #2 harness can cause the BCU to go MIA without any other units going offline.
