Hello,Well after changing my head gasket, i started up the car, for some reason the car can only run if the distributor is all the way advanced, if i retard it a little it lags like crazy, and wants to almost die if i push on the gas. Also after about every 20 minutes I have the car on and one of the injectors goes out, I change it out with another stock 260cc, then the motor goes back to the way it was before the injectors goes bad. I dont understand, could there be a tooth of on the distributor??? once i fix this problem my turbo goes in. If any one can help my out i would appreciate it thanks-Ricky

I had the same problem when i swapped a lower mileage KA in.

my problem was my base timing was off some at the crank pulley markings

try turning your crank pulley and move it till the aligment pin is on the right mark.

for ka24e it should be at the 15BTDC markfor ka24de i think it should be the 20 mark.

then use the disturbor to turn either way to fune tune by hear....

then get a timing light and double check it.

Or just get a timing light in the first place and save yourself a lot of work.

Also, DO NOT set your timing without shutting off the car, disconnecting the TPS and restarting it. The ECU will freak out if you just start changing the timing.

If you have the valve cover off it is easy to align the distributor rotor gear into the timing chain. First put the engine to TDC on the compression stroke. Next, insert the distributor so that the circle 'dowel' of the gear on the end of the distributor lines up with the dot on the shaft of the distributor. Hope that makes sense. That will get you on the right 'tooth' but you will probably need to fine-tune it from there with a timing light.

Before this person dismantles there engine, did anyone think of the following:

Oxygen SensorEGR ValveStuck Throttle BodyMalfunctioning TPSECU

I believe in checking the little stuff first. This way your not going to hang yourself when you find out that Vacuum hose was the culprit of 3 hours of engine diagnosing.

Hello, well i think i fod my problem but looks to appear not all of it, the number 3 and 4 injector plugs are not working properly, i tried to change out my ecu and does the same. The tps is fine as well as the egr, throttle body and oxygen sensor. But the car still runs only when it all the way advance, even only starts all the way advance, does anyone think that it can be a tooth of on my cam?? if anything which on does any think it would be, thanks for the help so far

well usually when you have to advance the piss outta the distributor it just means you are off by a tooth on that.... but thats only usually, i would start there first

just put the motor at 20 degrees before tdc, its the very first mark on the crank pulley. then make sure the tip or your rotor lines up with the number one point, this is the easiest thing to check first, because you only have to pull two screws on the distributor cap

I looked and everything is fine i even had my buddy, get to look at it,(cams) i believe it was a tooth of one the disturbitor, also i had a fuel leak, i believe there called grommets, there on the intake mani, they look like little donuts, undreneath the fuel rail/injectors, one of them was ripped, so i changed it out, and then number 4 injector went out, so i changed it out, started to run a little better, whenever i rev it, but it doesnt idle for nothing, iam stunned right now, everything good, like egr fuel pressure etc, is there or might i check for something else, the MAf is also working fine to. Thanks for the help
