1991 300z tt, brang it to nissan cause it was idling high and they told me that the iac valve does not work and its 390 plus labor to fix or they would pinch off the vacuum line going to it and it would be a temporary fix that would lower the idle but it wouldnt be consistent. Is there anything i can do to fix this without spending over $400??

If the mechanics are trying to make extra bucks out of you i had the same problem but i fixed it with changin Air filter/ Clean Throttle body sensors/ Check-Replace IACV hoses/ and mess with idle adjusting screw. Nissan Manual stated 720RPM for AT and 650RPM for MT. Heres is a few websites with some awesome info.

There might be other problems which i found out which contributed to the high idle.

IACV system replacements can be found athttp://www.courtesyparts.com/z32/oe_IACV.html
