Title pretty much says it all. My friend's car- he hit a raccoon while driving one night and then the car lost the ability to idle. I finally looked at it yesterday and while I can hold up the idle manually with the throttle, it definitely wants to keep stalling and seems indicative of a vacuum leak or IAC problem. It is also setting an IAC code (PO505 I believe)

Just as a quick experiment, I cleared codes, restarted it while holding the idle manually and it still instantly set that code again (while not having gotten an opportunity to idle badly yet) so I'm thinking the IAC is bad or very clogged.

I searched around for vacuum leaks but couldn't find anything obvious, all the hoses are connected properly.

I couldn't find the IAC by looking for it. Is it underneath the throttle body, in a strange location or am I just oblivious? Are IAC's common to fail on these engines?

I don't have much experience with these cars. Is there a common area to look for a vacuum leak?

Could a bad MAF cause this or the IAC error code? It was not setting a MAF code

(I hope I don't get in trouble for posting here and in Nissan Mechanic but I've seen a lot of Maxima specific similar problems on this forum that seem to be more MAF or VIAS related recently)

Choosing from here, it could be either MAF or IACV but I would bet on IACVsince you can keep it running?

IACV is under the throttle body and relatively assessibleIt could be the wiring to the IACV too You can clean it but you will need a new gasket for the coolantchamber.

Does the throttle body have to be removed to access the IAC(v)?

This website has some good pictures of how to remove the IACV;
