I am looking at buying a 2002 I35. I assume that they are virtually identical to the 2002 Maxima. Is there any known issues with this year (transmission, O2 Sensors, Knock Sensors)? I currently have a 97 SE and I am happy with it but it has had a few issues.

Thanks for any input!

Forgot to mention this is a California car - will it have a bunch of emission baggage on it to restrict performance?

Same car. Pretty much a GLE with more luxury appointments. The wheels are different as are the headlights, tail lights, and side markers. Other than that the rest is pretty much the same.

Any major issues that you know of? I hear they have poor turning radius.

My 97 SE has had the transmission replaced, knock sensor, and 2 O2 sensors. I am also fighting dash rattles all the time.

Are the performance mods in-line with the Gen 4 Maximas? Make it breath better and you get better performance.

Thanks

Here's a link to a reliability report.http://autos.msn.com/research/...l=I35

You are pretty much spot on with your thinking regarding mods.

Turning radius does suck...

Intake will give it a nice howl, but are not known to really give performance gains. Headers are the #1 performance part for the VQ35. Cat-back might give you a couple of hp as will a Y-pipe (maybe). Light pully will probably free up a couple more. Stiffer suspension will allow it to launch better, thus better track times. Light rims will help with unsprung weight to free up some more.
