Hey everyone,
New to this site, found it while searching for some info on a few problems I'm having with my 2004 i35. The posts I found here were the most informative so I'm hoping someone can clarify a few things for me.
I took my car into get an oil change and the mechanic told me that I need to replace my Oil Filter Adapter Gasket, as well as my Oil Pan Gasket- at a labor cost of $400 total (the parts were around $20-30 total).
I replaced my oil myself this last time, noticed what he was talking about regarding the oil pan gasket. As far as I can see, it's just a sealant of some sort, maybe silicone, gasket, right? Replacing that seems fairly straight forward, remove the oil pan, clean off any gunk, apply the gasket with sealant, let it sit, re-apply the oil pan and let it sit. Anything I'm missing here?
When it comes to the Oil Filter Adapter Gasket, I'm not sure if that's referring to the oil cooler gasket, or something else? I read a post on here where someone said,
"I had the same problem with my 2003 I35 oil cooler, but was able to fix it in 5 minutes. The problem is not the gasket (quality rubber gasket, can't imagine it ever going bad). It's the actual oil filter stud tube (what the filter screws onto). It loosens up over time from oil filter changes.
All you have to do is remove the oil filter and tighten the the stud tube, just that simple. I'm sure this is the case for all Nissans and Infinitis that use this oil cooler/filter combo. This should save an unnecessary pricey trip to the dealer."
Can anyone give me an idea which problem I'm having?
Thanks so much in advance for any help!
