I30 vs J30 comparison

I currently have a '99 I30 and just saw a nice looking '97 J30 up for sale. As I was comparing, I noticed that the I30 looks bigger but that could be because the J just sits lower. Has anyone seen a post that does a comparison of the two models? My assumption is that the I30 is based on the Maxima and I just saw a post that said the J has the same engine as the 300ZX which makes sense since it's looks are similar. Anybody want to explain the difference in these models?

I30 = fwdJ30 = rwd

Completely different platforms.
