I have a '00 i30 that has been fairly trouble-free until recently. I took a highway trip, and when stopped at a light after getting off the highway, the car wouldn't shift out of 1st when I tried to pull away from the light. I nursed the car home, and after cooling down, it seems to shift OK. I'm assuming the issue is heat related. The fluid is fine and smeels normal. I've read about some part breakdowns, such as shift solenoid, speed sensor, and a few others. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks...

Could be the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) but better service the fluid first and replace the filter as required. Refer to the thread below for additional info.

Try doing the AT self-diagnostic procedure starting on page AT-50 of the FSM. If it's something electrical (sensor, solenoid) this procedure should tell you. If a problem code does come up, ohm testing of each component is outlined in the same section of the FSM.

When my Q45 randomly wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd it was the revolution sensor gone bad, verified by ohm testing. Clean fluid and filter are a must too.
