i30 suspension problems

i own a 98 i30t and i put some 20" wheels which i have had on it since 05...took them off for 8months and put them back on, my car handles horrible...first my ball joints broke on pass. side and axle also broke and i fixed that..

now when i drive, it makes noises on the driver side like something is loose, sounds kinda like a spring going up and down, kinda squealing noise but not really loud...i have changed both struts still no change, im now thinking its the ball joints on the driver's side...also the ball joint on passenger side is loose so when i hit bumps you can hear the noises...does anyone have an idea if there could be any other possible thing causing the noise on the driver's side??

when i drive it just sounds like something is about to break loose or tear apart? im also suspecting transmission mounts so i dont know

p.s. i changed motor and transmission in the car (with one from a maxima if that will help)

How heavy are the wheels and tires together?

collectively they all weigh 360lbs i believe...they are 20" wheels with spinners also on 245/35 series tires..so there are pretty heavy

they sure do...each wheel and tire and spinner collectively weighs close to 90lbs each...i own the wheels i would know...spinners are pretty heavy so that pretty much sums up why they are heavy

on a second note, just checked the cardboard that was used to wrap them when they came in when i first got the wheels, UPS packaging says heavy pkg over 70lbs and they have written weight on the side...76lbs on each one of them from ups measurements

could this be the cause of my problems and does anyone have an idea what exactly could be wrong, ball joints, transmission or motor mount or what??

Wow! at that weight,those arnt wheels,they are ANCHORS! GET rid of them! They kill suspension components,acceleration,braking,and ride quality....all for looks?

yes im actually in the process of getting rid of the whole car...was on ebay last week but best offer i got for the car was $5500 which was too small, so i'll take the wheels off and sell the car and wheels seperate...but i was trying to get it fixed and driveable till i find a buyer...

I think reducing that unsprung mass from 360 lbs. (I don't think he is indluding the tires wither!) to 180 will cure a lot of your problems.

$5500 for a 98 I30 with factory wheels is about all you are going to get,especially with the dents in the bodywork....if you fix the suspension.

true that...if i got that with factory wheels i would have sold it...but $5500 was for car, custom wheels, 8 screens and 4 12" sub system...thats why i didnt sell..but without the custom stuff i look at getting $4500 just for the car itself
