my wife's I30 suddenly would not start tonight. she went to the store, and when she came out the car would not start. plenty of juice in the battery, but when you crank the key, all you get is a click, and no drain on the battery, like the ignition is never even getting as far as needing the battery for that initial surge. any ideas? any one ever have this problem before? any hints or suggestions greatly appreciated. you guys have a great site here, glad i found it. thanks, -justinp.s. this is for a '99 I30, in dallas, tx 68,000 miles. recently replaced knock sensor, map/baro solenoid, and recent tune up about two weeks ago.

One of two things or both. The clicking is likely your flywheel clicking from battery volts on ignition. Have you checked your alternator? Do a simple load test with a battery voltometer (they are cheap and available anywhere). If your alternator checks out its likely a starter issue.

I think your problem points straight to the starter from having the same experience in a 99 I30...
