Hello to all. This is my first post, so I apologize if this issue has already been discussed. I have a '96 I30 with 180,000 miles. My issue has been ongoing and its getting to the point where I'm running out of options. About a month ago, the car started bucking while I was cruising at low speed. It was so few and far in between that I would forget about it sometimes. Then it got to the point where it would do it more and more, and also stall at red lights and stop signs. I was told that it may be the maf, so I took it off and cleaned it, along with the throttle body and the problem went away for a while. So about 3 days ago it came back a little worse than before so i did a little more research and found out about knock sensors. So i bought 1 and put it on 2 days ago. The old 1 was all melted so i really thought I fixed the problem this time......NOT!!! The next day, it ran like a champ and I felt power that i didn't know the car had, but today its back. Somebody help me please

Are there any codes? Go by an autoparts store and see if they will pull codes. Have you checked your fuel injectors?

No It's not giving any codes. Autozone told me that they couldn't run the diagnostic test if it wasn't. I'm gonna try somewhere else to see if that's true. I ran into a guy today with a 96 Maxima and he said that he was having the same problem and it ended up being the egr valve. Is this possible? Its $150 for that part, but I can't keep spending money on parts that aren't fixing the problem.

You can put on a glove and check the EGR valve to see if it moves
when you revup the engine
Might be stuck open or closed

So if it moves that means its stuck?

Found out what the problem was. My check engine light is blown so that's why its not coming on. The problem is the maf sensor. $240 unless I can find 1 cheaper for somewhere other than autozone.

A failing MAF sensor may not even turn on the CEL. Since you have a fault code for the MAF sensor (most likely P0100), then you have to replace the MAF sensor, preferrably with OEM part. Yes, it is an expensive component.

if EGR valve moves it is NOT stuck open or closed
