A few weeks ago my son got his 1997 i30 stuck in a snow bank, we pulled the car out with my van. Ever since that time, the automatic transmission shifter is not aligned, in other words, when you are in Drive, it looks like your in 'N', so its off alignment about 1/2 inch - 1 inch (non technical I know). Also we are having a heck of a time starting the car, I think this is because the car doesnt think its in Park. Sometimes it takes 10-20 times wiggling, and moving the shifter back and forth before the car starts. Does anyone know what could be the cause and the cure for this?

My mom's 88 Maxima had this problem from time to time. I have no idea if the design is the same - but it's worth checking. There should be an adjustment in the linkage between the transmission and the shifter. If you don't have your car's factory service manual, you can download it at http://www.phatg20.net/index.p...id=10 and then google for a free tool to decompress the .rar file. Then you'll have the .pdf manual. I guess I would be concerned about what else you bent getting it out of the snow drift... might be worth having it checked out and getting a front-end alignment at a minimum.

Good luck!
