Well the SES light came on for the very first time in the I30, and I was wondering if anybody knows a place in Canada besides the dealership where I can just get the code scanned (maybe for free, just like AutoZone in the states)? That way I can make a decision on where to take the car to get fixed.

Another thing, its been making a whine when starting the car for about 6 months now (rarely gets driven, hence I haven't gotten it fixed or checked out yet). My first intuition was the starter, but having a good friend of mine hear the sound he says it must be a sensor since its rare for a starter to last that long when its on the go and it makes a sound when turning off the car (not a whining sound, just a normal electrical sound when you turn something off).

The MAF has been changed, 4 or 5 years ago. (when we bought the car, during the test drive the SES light came on... MAF got changed, as well as two O2 sensors since the GM dealer didn't know what was wrong, they assumed it was the O2 sensor(s) and then they finally took it to Infiniti and got it properly checked and fixed)

Thanks!

Im thinking of recording the Whine noise and hosting it so people can hear what Im talking about, its hard to explain. The pitch of the whine hasn't changed since the first time it started.

Oh and its not the belts or anything loose, had that all checked out. It doesn't make the noise while driving but ONLY when starting.

Does it wine when you turn the ingnition to on, or when you are actually cranking and starting the car? Is it coming from under the hood or further back on the car?

What are your local/chain parts stores for your vehicles? I have only delt with dealerships in Canada...

It whine's when actually cranking and starting the car. Its coming from under the hood.

As far as local chain's we have Partsource, Piston Ring, Napa and their might be others but Im not familiar with them. None of them will pull the codes for me, they don't have the readers for use but only for sale.

I will be posting a link to a recording of the whining sound tonight

So I just got back from a Nissan dealership (cheaper price for diagnostic then our 1 and only Infiniti dealership)

It pulled 2 codes:P1320 - Ignition SignalP0100 - Mass Air Flow Sensor

The noise is actually the starter, the tooth isn't kicking back so Im gonna have to eventually replace the starter.

Heres my question, how hard is it to replace the coils yourself? Second, the MAF was replaced 4 years ago is it really time again to replace it? (The dealership was saying to clean the air filter and then change the coils to see if the code comes up again).

As far as the igniton coils, they said the harness is fine but if the P1320 code comes again, they said to replace the harness as well.

Thanks!

I also forgot to add that they coil packs aren't dead, they are weak so I would rather replace them soon then having to deal with rough idle & poor gas mileage.

Change the air filter and clean teh MAF sensor. As far as the coils/packs. They are mounted individually at the plugs. Unfortunately I beleive you are looking at 6 and that's a little pricey. Check with the gang in the tech forum to see if there is a way to individually check the packs for heat, rather than replacing all of them.--Mike

Im not worried about spending the extra money on all 6 of them. All 6 were tested and found weak. If theres any diagrams or how-to's on how to change them that would be great.

What is the best way to clean the MAF sensor?

Thanks!
