i just replaced the rear brakes on my 1998 i30 last night. however, i had a bit of a problem "lining up" one of the pins on the outer side of one of the pads with one of the four notches in the piston. after i turned the piston in most of the way, i place the caliper over the pads and found it wasn't lining up to be bolted back to the caliper bracket. well, the inside pad was causing the obstruction. actually, it was a pin in the center of the pad not lining up with one of the notches in the piston. i pulled the caliper back off and turrned the piston so that one of the notches would be center over this pin.

after final assembly, i thought this seemed a bit strange. if one of the notches is covering this pin on the pad, how is the brake ever going to adjust? is there something i am missing?

any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, you need to have the pin on the pad in on of the 4 slots of the caliper piston. The caliper adjust inside the caliper.
