Have a strange situation with a family member's I30. It is a 2001 with approximately 145,000 miles. The vehicle is located in a small town in SE Kansas and about 90-100 miles from the Nissan or Infiniti dealerships.

About 8 months ago, the alternator died and was replaced. Following that, the car has been running great.

Starting about two weeks ago, when driving the car, it will lose all power (lights go off on the dash) and die. Sometimes it will start back up, other times it won't start for a day or so. At some random period, it will start back up again and run fine. Then, it will happen again.

It was taken back to the shop that installed the alternator and they said they couldn't find any issues.

I hope this is enough info to help diagnose. From the sounds of it, I was thinking something to do with the ground, but wanted to see what you all thought.

Thanks ... v/r, Curt

Is it throwing any codes? Have you tested the battery?

like tigersharkdude and nissangirl said. Check battery. On the grounds. I'd take all the grounds off and clean the connection to the car and the wire itself. Also, make sure the alt is ok as well. Even though its only 9 months old doesnt mean it wasnt defective.

Thanks .... I will pass on ... the shop that installed the alternator supposedly checked everything out (to include the charging system), but they had the classic "could not reproduce issue" on the receipt.
