I have a 99 Infiniti I30 with 20,000 miles. I live in Florida (it's hot)and bought the car two weeks ago. The car is great, but I'm disappointed with the Air Conditioning. In order to get it cool inside, the AC setting has to be below 70 degrees. Anything above that and it just doesn't cool. I have taken it back to the dealership and they checked it out, and said it is functioning properly. I just sold a 97 Mazda Millenium S, that if I had set the AC at 70, I wouldn't be able to sit in the car without a coat. The only difference is that the tint on the Mazdas windows was darker. Is that enough to make a difference? Should I tint the windows darker? Thanks Pat D

when you set the temp for 70 does the fan stay on at full speed the whole time? if so then i believe your a/c is trying to accomplish something that it can not. my vehicle is almost 10 years old and when it's on 70, it's REAL cold. Find another dealer to look at it. Second opinions can't hurt.

Mayhem asked a good question about your AC:

Does it show 4 blades at 70?

If it does, its working hard ,if its still not plenty cool then you may be low on rerfrigerant.

As new as your car is, that is the most likely explnation in IMHO, as any otehr AC issues, are not likely to show up for years. While tinted windows may have helped your millenia a bit, your AC should be strong enough to keep you cool even w/ clear windows. One more question:When you notice low performance of the AC, is that just when idling or during hiway driving as well?

Keep us posted.

Here are a couple of other easy things to check.1) Is the condenser free of dirt and debris. You can easily wash it out with a hose.2) If the car has an electric fan verify that it is running.

The I30 A/C works very well normally. Ask the dealer to adjust the trimmer portion of the A/C 1* cooler. This will cause the system to be more critical of cabin temperature and react quicker. They should perform this for free, it only takes a minute.

When the car is initially started, there are usually four blades showing. But after a while it slows down to one. It is pretty much the same whether I'm going 30 or 70 MPH. It just never seems to get cool. It always feels sticky, like humidity.I'm going to have the dealer look at it again at the next oil change. If that doesn't work....I'll go for the second opinion. Thanks for your help...Pat D

if it's on auto and the blades go down to one that means it THINKS it's at the appropriate temperature. It's been said that it doesn't judge the cabin temperature to well so this might be the cause.
