David Foster Wallace (February 21, 1962 – September 12, 2008) was an American author of novels, essays, and short stories, and a professor at Pomona College in Claremont, California. He was widely known for his 1996 novel Infinite Jest, which Time included in its All-Time 100 Greatest Novels list (covering the period 1923–2006).

Los Angeles Times book editor David Ulin called Wallace "one of the most influential and innovative writers of the last 20 years."

A writer from Champaign, IL that used to teach at Illinois State. He wrote "Infinite Jest" which got a good reviews but I didn't care for, uses irony a lot.

And he hung himself a couple of years ago. Another lifelong depressive / tortured soul type.

Sweet. On another note, he looks like some kind of stupid hippy. I posted a letter I wrote to the Virginia PSSA Board as a sample. lol

Apparently, this is how Stephen King writes:
Stephen King wrote:Today I sat at the computer and just did NOTHING. It was great. Then I decided to eat a sandwich and take a sh*t. It was a watery sh*t, but everything else was going so well that I decided I shouldn't work on the car till sun-down. "What a great idea!" I thought to myself, and proceeded to do nothing. The end.

Who's Cory Doctorow?
I wish I was little bit taller,
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good
I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
and a '64 Impala

I wish I was like six-foot-nine
So I could get with Leoshi
Cause she don't know me but yo she's really fine
You know I see her all the time
Everywhere I go, and even in my dreams
I can scheme of ways to make her mine
Cause I know she's livin phat
Her boyfriend's tall and he plays ball
So how am I gonna compete with that
'Cause when it comes to playing basketball
I'm always last to be picked
And in some cases never picked at all
So I just lean upon the wall
Or sit up in the bleachers with the rest of the girls
Who came to watch their men ball
Dag y'all! I never understood
Why the jocks get the fly girls
And me I get the hood rats
I tell 'em scat, skittle, skibobble
Got hit with a bottle
And put in the hospital, for talkin' that mess
I confess it's a shame when you livin' in a city
That's the size of a box and nobody knows yo' name
Glad I came to my senses
Like quick-quick got sick-sick to my stomach
Overcome with my thoughts of me and her together
Right?
So when I asked her out she said I wasn't her type

ROFL, I got Cory Doctorow too. From this post:
apple-s-solution-for-the-iphone-death-g ... l#p5708622

This post earned me a Chuck Palahniuk.

Cory Doctorow again with this one:
lego-harry-potter-t500273.html

I wrote some stupid monologue about hating stupid and stabbing a stupid person and it turned up a J.K. Rowling result.

I threw in a couple "presently"s and "shall we"s and got James Joyce.

This thing is broke. I grew up reading Crichton, and his goofy dialogue-riddled structuring is still what tends to dominate my writing today.

I writle like Kurt Vonnegut too.

"I slept very poorly last night. I s*** the bed, and slept for a few hours before waking and realizing what i had done. I changed the sheets, and my clothes, and went out to smoke a cigarette. I won two dollars on a two dollar scratch off today, so that was exciting."

:rotfl Its crazy how much that sounds like him.

Here's an article Vonnegut wrote about the Saab dealership he managed in the 60s:
http://www.inthesetimes.com/article/1726/

I used to be the owner and manager of an automobile dealership in West Barnstable, Massachusetts, called “Saab Cape Cod.” It and I went out of business 33 years ago. The Saab then as now was a Swedish car, and I now believe my failure as a dealer so long ago explains what would otherwise remain a deep mystery: Why the Swedes have never given me a Nobel Prize for Literature. Old Norwegian proverb: “Swedes have short d!ck but long memories.”

for this;
I was a happy man, I was a sad man, I was an angry man, I was a bad man.
She was my woman, She made me tea, she made me any sandwich that i could eat.
she stayed in the kitchen, where she belonged, all day long.
but during the night, we would wrestle under the sheets, the mistress and I oh life was so neat.

I took that, and removed the commas, and still got Raymond Chandler, but once I removed the periods, I got Charles d!ck. Apparently Charles d!ck writes like Raymond Chandler, but without punctuation of any form.

Apparently I have VERY diverse and eclectic writing style. I tested four different pieces:

My wedding vows - David Foster Wallace

Intro to Jim's [flohting_point] article - Stephanie Meyer

First page of the article I wrote about Classic Datsun Motorsports and meeting Les Cannaday - Stephen King

First page of the article I wrote about the adventurous trip to pick up the Dime - William Gibson.

:gotme Go figure.

I'm sorry I didn't know about some founding father of today's modern writing. As far as I can remember, they didn't talk about him in high school and I never really did any college classes. How am I supposed to know about him, oh Great Wizard of Knowing?

His books were on practically every summer reading list for every school district I have ever been to. I'm kind of glad I don't have to read his stuff anymore, tho. His writing style makes my head hurt. WAY above me.
