Back in November I took my J to a friend of a friend to get the front and rear trans seals replaced it was leaking pretty bad. I paid the guy what a shop would charge ($500) to do as a side job after work. He took 2 weeks with my car to do whatever he did. When I got it back it still leaked. It took until recently for the fluid that he put in there to leak out because it was so far above full it never showed any loss. I took it to him the other day and he told me about "the other" seals that were leaking. He said he was going to have to drop the trans to get to them (didn't he have to do that for the front seal before???). I asked him if the leak was from something that he did or is it another problem and he assured me that everything he did was fine. I then told him that I can't put too much more money into this car cause it isn't worth that much. He told me that he was going to fix it and we didn't need to discuss price right now??!!??!! Who fixes a vehicle without telling someone what it is going to cost beforehand???? I honestly think he put some crazy amount of stop leak in there and charged me $500 for it and now he is fixing what he should have done in the first place. He was supposed to fix it on Saturday and I have heard nothing from him and he wont return my calls. He has had my car for 9 days now and I don't know what to do about this. I have tried to be civil and understanding but I am now getting very annoyed with this guy. Does anyone else think this guy is screwing with me?

Sounds like he's ripping you off. Reminds me of my ex's father. You better get some leverage on him. Do not trust anyone with your car, even if you don't know how to do something do it yourself. Find help here or online somewhere else from now on.

im not too sure how things are done in Virginia but down here in TX im pretty sure theres a law against that...worst case scenario you take him to small claims court and sue for damages...lastly since it was a side job done at the shop if he did not have the shops permission to do it he may get fired...id definately invest in a factory service manual and get real close with someone you know who likes to turn wrenches...all in all if i were you i would just cut your losses and try to move on...
