I have a 92 HAtchback with a KAde24. I also was able to get a spare engine also a KADE24 newer and in better shape ( I think its a 95)to rebuild. I am doing a rebuild on it now. I just not sure what I want to do to it. Do I want to Turbo it or leave it all motor.

Here are my plans for the car. I want to use it as a daily driver/ autocross it. I would love to have the KA T but that is really expensive etc. But if I leave it all motor and rebuild it completely new pistons, cams etc. Can I get around 300 hp out of it. IF I go with Turbo would I have to worry about turbo lag in autocross.

It's probably possible, but the amount of money required would make you weep and you'd probably have to rebuild it once a month.

Anyway, the only practical way to get 300hp to the wheels (hell, even 300bhp) is some kind of forced induction. Otherwise, it'll be impressive if you manage to break 200hp to the wheels.

If your new motor is in good shape (good compression, leakdown) you can go with a turbo kit on stock internals. It'll certainly be more bang for the buck than any high horsepower NA build.

A good solid rebuild with a few speed parts and a good tune should get you near 200 whp NA. This will require all the normal stuff hot-rodders have been doing since the 70's. Hot cams, port match polish and reshape combustion chambers, bowl work. Intake runners polished and cleaned up, intake system re-routing for max power. Good headers and exaust. Good ECU control whether by piggyback, re-tune or standalone. You know, on and on. Not all of this is costly.

A possibly cheaper and easier route would be to get a nice tiny turbo, set yourself up to run 5-7 PSI and go at it. With a small enough boost goal (5-7) you should be able to get a turbo that will provide a boost threshold of around 2500-3000. It will completely poop out above 6000, but then, so does the KA, so no loss there.

Also, 300 whp is a rather large goal for our relatively tiny engine. For those numbers you need better flow and higher boost, which in general means a higher boost threshold and less fun on an autocross course.

Of course, you could always tack on a supercharger and get boost from 1500 RPM. A little more difficult, but probably no more expensive though.

300whp is about average for what our motors can output, and raising boost pressure does not increase boost threashold. It increases the lag time between partial and full boost pressure, but that is minimal since the turbo spins exponentially faster as boost pressure rises, thanks to additional exhaust gas energy.

your 92 has the best cams and from what i've heard s14 engines aren't as good as the s13 KA24DEthats just what i've heard, so i let the choice be up to you.eds13

to rebuild a ka or to turbo it that is the question. The price range os about the same so just turbo it and cal it a day, and I do not know ab;ut turbo lag
