So I have to say I hated this holiday the worst so far. So I decided I wanted to walk around the neighborhood with my friends and there kids, so I drive to there house and park on the side of the street where everyone else was parking. We get down the street and we get a phone call that someone backed into my car. So I ran down the street to see what happened someone pulled in a drive way and decided to back up and bam hit the G. Well that wasnt the worst part the people that hit it ran, so we got the liscene plate number call the police they go over there and the people wouldnt admit who was driving so they towed the car. So now I am stuck with a door that is smashed in, hopefully they have insurance, but my question is do I have a leg to stand on do try to bring the people to court if they dont have insurance or what will my insurance do about it? Thanks for letting me vent here.

What a crappy Halloween Fail to them.

I have no idea what insurance liability laws in Louisiana are specifically as their laws differ from other states. The same thing happened to my wifes' car a few months back and she got it covered under her insurance and they actually refunded most of her deductible since it was a hit and run.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Parked cars under most, if not all, state laws are deemed property damage when hit. In Michigan, each insured has $1,000,000 coverage for property damage. Consult with your agent as he/she will know the laws and courses of action you can take. Talking with your agent won't affect your insurance, your agent is there for a reason, for times like these. Each state should have general insurance laws posted on the state's website. Go there and look for auto insurance and coverage laws.

I dealt with a dispute over this as someone backed into my G in June, so if you need any help, I can help you out on a limited basis as I don't know laws in your state.

DIE for saying that!!! Lol j/k. I really like halloween. I'm sorry yours ended to badly.

Your coverage varies by state, insurance company, and what you paid for.

My wife and I have uninsured motorist and uninsured motorist property damage. I'm not sure how the deductible portion works, but I think the insurance company goes after the guilty party on your behalf...or on theirs if they pay for your car ahead of time.

I was supposed to go out of town and party with some friends but ended up with a flat... and my spare was flat too. I was stranded at my apt the whole night.

Sorry to hear that bro. I keep my car in garage all the time. I know sometimes you can't. I usually find a place what seems to be safe even if I have to walk quite a bit. I was luckywith my 07. 20 months ovnership no damage at all. Same with my 08 only 3k on it with no ding.

Hope it all get sorted out for you.

You should be covered under comprehensive as you did not do the damage yourself. The insurance company should go after them.

Hopefully the cops charge them with hit and run. I HATE that people think that leaving like that is an option.

That really sucks bro... But thats why we have insurance. If you have uninsured motorist coverage, that is the coverage that will pay for the damages of a hit and run. no deductible and rates shouldn't go up. If they catch the person that hit you, your insurance company will most likely go after them to get their money back.
